Description / Overview:
The project will support improved preparedness, coordination, management and delivery of humanitarian and recovery assistance in Syria by fostering capacity within the Government of Syria and dialogue and understanding between government institutions, national non-governmental organizations, the United Nations active organizations in the field and the donor community, in order to design the necessary structures, mechanisms, capacity building programmes and tools for crisis prevention, response and recovery.

Objectives:
  • Engage all concerned parties to improve the institutional and policy frameworks and coordination mechanisms for preparedness and response.
  • Design a unified and efficient national crisis management structure and policy framework for preparedness and response
  • Improve the preparedness, coordination, management and delivery of humanitarian and recover assistance in both man-made and natural disasters in Syria
  • Proposals developed and adopted under this project will be translated in internal decisions by the Prime Minister


Target Beneficiaries:

  • Victims of disasters affecting Syria
  • Government institutions which will be involved in the dialogue to design an improved structure and capacity building programmes for their government employees.
  • NGOs and UN agencies will benefit from better communication channels between them and with the Government.


Implementation Strategy:

  • Extensive focus on capacity building at the individual and institutional levels.
  • Conduct training workshops, international study tours and technical meetings for stakeholders and all concerned parties to raise visibility of crisis prevention, as well as to analyze and replicate good practices.
  • Design a functional national coordination framework through dialogue and trainings engaging all concerned parties.
  • Organize several high-level meetings with UNDP officials and experts in order to build consensus around the designed national crisis management structure

Achievements / Current Status:
The project is currently in the commencing phase. Project staff are being recruited
