Recent Ongoing Projects


• The Global Compact has facilitated an agreement between two of our GCLN members, Byblos Bank Syria and Basma to launch the “Easy Save with Basma” project. For every new “Easy Account” opened in Bank Byblos 500 Syrian Pounds are being contributed into the Basma’s Current Account by Bank Byblos. The money goes for development purposes in Basma to serve the cause of cancer treatment of children.

“Institutionalising CSR as well as values is also an appeal. It is an honourable association. This formalises and structures giving for development,” says Nadim Ghantous, General Manager of Bank Byblos.



• Reviving the Old Souks In Der el Zor was inaugurated in December 2008, in which Emaar Syria is a strategic partner. The project aims at enhancing the business environment in the North Eastern region and bringing back an invaluable historical edge to the old markets.

• Talal Abu Ghazaleh Group is engaged with UNDP on a number of projects under the UN Global  Compact including enhancing SME capacities, entrepreneurship, ICT for development and ISO.


MTN CANCER RESEARCH CENTER

MTN Syria signs Cost Sharing Agreement with UNDP to establish Syria’s first Cancer Research Center on August 4,2009.

The objective of the cancer center is to help diagnose the cancer causes, types, frequency and geographical distribution by establishing innovative laboratory and a high quality Cancer Center. In addition, this project aims to spread awareness in Syria regarding the threats of cancer and early interventions procedures.

Currently, the rehabilitation process and the renewal of the three sections of the cancer hospitals located in Aleppo, Damascus, Lattakia and the new HIS system have taken action.
