UNIVERSITY OF KALMOON HOSTS A TECHNICAL DISCUSSION OF THE UNGC COUNCIL
Salim Daaboul, Vice chairman of UoK Board of Trustees hosted the Council on March 15th. Sarhad Haffar, Firas Tlass, Nader Kabbani, Yasmina Azhari, Abdulsalam Haykal, and Bassel Hamwi attended and Bisher Hashem was received as a guest. Following the meeting was a lunch hosted by Salim Daaboul at the university. Discussion included Council terms of reference, charter, mission and views on how to push for development work in Syria.

 PROJECT INTERN PRESENTATION AT UoK A presentation on UN Global Compact was given at Kalamoon University by Katharina Lehman, a German Exchange student at the university as well as an intern with UNGC for two months. The lecture stimulated discussion, awareness, and interest among UOK students.


 


GLOBAL COMPACT LAUNCHES REDESIGNED WEBSITE The United Nations Global Compact unveiled its new website www.unglobalcompact.org which completes the adaptation of the Global Compact's communications infrastructure to the new visual identity first introduced at the 2007 Global Compact Leaders Summit in Geneva.

GLOBAL COMPACT SYRIA AND THE FINANCIAL TIMES SPECIAL REPORT The GC Syria initiative and members of the Network will be present in the first FT Special Report on Syria which will be launched on June 16th at the FT headquarters in London.
 
ILO WORKSHOP ON DECENT WORK, MAY 12th-14th Global Compact Director gave a presentation on the Global Compact Initiative in Syria. The Worskshop was called " Implementation, monitoring of DWCPs in a result- based management context." Topics of discussions ranged from ILO Mandate and policies, Labour Market and employment policies and future directions,The Concept of Decent Work, UN Reform and UNDAF,Partnership with UN Agencies" to name a few. Attendees were from UNDP, UNICEF, UNRWA,UNRC,DWCP, MOSAL, Social Security Representatives, and Damascus Chamber of Industry.

COVERAGE: UNGC will continue to expand awareness throughout the country. We will be visiting Lattakia, Tartous, and Homs among the original three governorates to increase awareness, expand the network and promote more cross‐sectoral private public development partnerships (PPP’s) within our scope.

SUPPORT UNITED NATIONS RELIEF EFFORTS IN GAZA The UN Global Compact along with the United Nations relief efforts contributed vastly in the humanitarian crises in Gaza. Supporting the civilian population required providing access to safe drinking water, fuel for power generation of hospitals, emergency shelter and food to name a few. The UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) is the United Nations central donation facility, collecting contributions year‐round to help ensure that funds are on hand to allow for immediate relief in emergencies.
