within the framework of project “Reviving the business climate and boasting tourism in Deir Ezzor”, the launching of the project activities and the Opening Ceremonies of the Ottoman Gate took place in Deir Ezzor on 18th December 2008. The project is implemented by State Planning Commission and United Nations Development Programme, with the technical support from UNESCO and in cooperation with Deir Ezzor Governorate, Emaar Company and Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Deir Ezzor.
The gathering started at the Furat Cham Hotel at 17:30hr, then moving to the Ottoman Gate and then back to Furat Cham Hotel for formal celebration.
The project has prepared studies that cover the project outputs: Lightening and Maintenance of the suspended bridge, Study on the impact of establishing a dam near to the Halabeya and Zalabeya Ruins and Study on the Restoration of the Ottoman Gate and the Old Souqs.
It is worth mentioning that the project, in cooperation with Emaar Company, is currently conducting a study on the Future perspective of the Old Souqs, in addition to preparing a detailed work plan starting from the old souqs’ infrastructure to the Roof of the main accesses.
