Objective
The UNDP Syria Internship Programme offers a small group of outstanding university students and graduates the opportunity to acquire experience working as interns in the United Nations system. The programme provides a compact understanding of UNDP’s development policies, thematic priorities, and technical cooperation activities. Interns specialized in the areas of democratic governance, sustainable environmental policies, poverty reduction, and other activities related to sustainable human development. Acquire practical experience in various aspects of project management in an international work environment.What to expect
- Work in a UNDP office and exposure to the UN system
- Assisting in preparing workshops/seminars
- Research work on development subjects
The internship is not intended to lead to further employment within the UN system, but to complement the intern’s studies or provide additional job market experience.
Description
- Assignments may vary in length, according to availability and academic requirements as well as the needs of the RSC.
- UNDP offers part-time or full-time (5 days/week, 40 hours/week) internships throughout the year.
- Assignments are normally for more than 6 weeks up to 6 months.
Qualifications
The following minimum qualifications are required:- University graduate, enrollment (preferably 3rd or 4th year students) or graduate-level degree programme in a development-related field such as economics, international relations, sociology, public or business administration, political sciences or environmental studies.
- Excellent written and spoken English, knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
- Excellent computer knowledge (Microsoft Office applications).
- Excellent interactive and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a multicultural environment.

- ability to handle and interpret data
- processing and analyzing data, producing tables and figures
Financial Aspects
The internship programme operates on a non-salaried basis. The subsistence and travel costs connected with the internship Programme must be borne by interns or by other institutions. Interns are responsible for arranging their own initial travel to Syria and accommodations there.Applicants for internships must sign a “Conditions governing the internship” form before their arrival in Syria.
If work-related travel within the country is requested by UNDP during the internship period, per diem and travel costs shall be paid by UNDP.
Medical Coverage
UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs or hardships arising from illness or accidents incurred during the internship. Interns must therefore carry adequate and regular medical and life insurance.Proof of medical coverage/visa must be provided before the internship commences.
